I am concerned about the health insurance coverage for the newly unemployed Aloha Air children. Lots of concern for a group of people caught unawares by their Aloha parent. But they were working. Others less fortunate had to wait and wait for health coverage for their keiki. Now this "gut and replace" action sets a new precedent for Hawaii's already burdened infrastructure. Is this a new interest group. Or guilt on the part of a legislature that failed to help Aloha for the past 2 years. We continue to spend state monies as if the State of Hawaii generated these funds. The State does not generate income it only collects taxes from business. We have lost a number of large business from which our state taxes are received. The economic forecast indicates that the State income is expected to be less than anticipated. But we now are using the "gut and replace" within the legislature in money bills. These are the same people who want to take away the Governor's emergency powers. Why not ask HMSA to fund the entire "Aloha Air-Children's Health Package". HMSA's non-profit status could use a good public relations boost.
